Progress Rewarded

Ahead of the weekend, and Blackburn’s disappointing defeat at Plymouth, Lewis Travis put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

The midfielder, also capable of playing in a more attacking role and defensively at full back, had only extended his contract last summer, but a fresh extension will now keep him at Ewood Park until June 2021.

Travis, brought to Lancashire from Liverpool in late 2014, has successfully come through the academy setup at Blackburn to feature in the U23 side, making his first team debut this season in a Checkatrade Trophy meeting with Stoke – playing in League One too.

A new deal was definitely something Travis wanted so he was left in no doubt about signing this.

He told the Official Website: ‘It’s always good to commit your future to a club you really want to play for. It’s what I’ve been working for. I’ve wanted a new deal and I’m delighted it’s come. We’re doing well in the Under-23s where we are top of the league and the first team is second at the moment so it’s always good to come on and help the team.’

An impression wanted to be made when Travis had his chance, continuing to do so is what Travis wants, feeling he’s so far managed to do this.

Travis added: ‘When you come on for the first team you always want to do well and impress. I like to think I did that. You want to impress the gaffer as much as you can. When he talks about you highly it’s really nice. I want to push myself ahead now.’

Securing Travis’ future is yet another positive for Blackburn, tying down an up an coming talent, who should very much be part of the long-term future of Rovers.
