Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid is not far from a return to action, but Rovers Boss Mark Hughes has stressed he will NOT rush him back too soon.
Serious back and cruciate knee ligament injuries virtually meant Reid missed the entire 2006-2007 season. However, having made a quicker than anticipated recovery Reidy could be back playing again by the end of the month, but WILL NOT do so until he is completely ready.
It was hoped that Reidy could feature against Wrexham on Tuesday Evening, but as a precaution he was omitted. However, he has travelled to Germany (although he is unlikely to play this Sunday) as he continues his progression ahead of a return.
Hughes though has again stressed that he will not rush him back too soon, as if he does this is likely to set him back even further. Sparkly told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website (when explaining the situation, and why he didn’t play against Wrexham):
“Steve joined in over the weekend but he just felt calf tighten up, that was all it was.
“The knee is fine but he is going to get little niggles because he’s been out for a year, but we’re not going to push him back quickly as it is important that when he does come back he is fit and strong and well.”
Meanwhile Brett Emerton has added his voice to the growing calls for Benni McCarthy to stay at Ewood Park, something that he is hopefully off.
The Australian International, currently away with the National side in the Asia Cup has said (these quotes are from Sky Sports, but I am not sure they were quoted to them?!?!):
“Benni is a fantastic player and he had a great season last year.
“Any player would love to have him in their team, I hope he stays but obviously that is a decision he has to make.”
Emerton also said that he hopes that Rovers sign some more players to add further quality to the squad, and greater competition for places.
