Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid is still recovering from his latest injury layoff but with Reid closing in on a return to (hopefully) full fitness he’s on standby for Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland play Australia in a friendly in Limerick on the 12th of August and Reid (who hasn’t played since October 2008) is on standby for Giovanni Trapattoni’s side. Reidy has been dogged by back and knee injuries for the past two or three-years but the 28-year-old is closing in on his latest return, which would be a boost for club and country.

Keith Andrews is again named in the 24-man squad.
