Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid was delighted to have made his return to action with Rovers on Monday Evening.

Reid, who has been out for 14-months with two long-term injuries (and then some niggling ones with his thigh and hamstring) came through 55 minutes of the 5-0 reserve win over Sunderland on Monday. The Republic of Ireland International is now looking forward to getting more football under his belt as he targets his first team return, which he admits will still be a while away yet, but not that far away all being well.

Reid told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It’s just brilliant to be back out there, and hopefully it won’t be long before it’s for real on a Saturday afternoon.

“I’d like to say it would be next week but I’ve still got quite a bit of work to do on my hamstring – a bit of strength work – but after that it actually feels like you’re a footballer again and I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

“I didn’t sleep the last couple of nights – I’ve been this close before to playing; I didn’t train today just in case anything happened. It’s just a big relief
.”

It was superb to actually see Reidy come through a game, he has been close to a return several times but never actually got this match under his belt, so hopefully he can progress from this and be back in the first team squad in the not to distant future.
