Various sources are reporting that West Ham have made a bid of £1.25 million for Benni McCarthy.

West Ham, under new owners are now free to spend wisley on players and builf their squad and are hoping to poach Benni who is reported to want out of Ewood Park.

But £1.25 million?! Are they taking the mick?

Hopefully Sam is not crazy as despite his age, McCarthy is worth more than what Hammers have apparently bid!

  • West Ham is the new Portsmouth. I wouldn’t touch their money or promises. Maybe Tottenham can afford to not actually get paid for a few years but we don’t have that luxury.

  • Not sure we can expect a lot for him – a player that is approaching the twilight of his career? He fell out with Paul Ince & wanted to leave, he’s not getting his own way with BSA and again he wants to leave; he fell out with his National side and seemd to be surprised that he was dropped. He is truly a player of talent but do we keep waiting for him to get his weight down and fitness levels up? Maybe it’s time to look to the future! No doubt many will strongly disagree???

  • west ham is in such financial difficulty… according to epltalk, over the last 3 years west ham has:

    -£50 million owed to banks.
-£40 million owed to other clubs for transfers.
-The £40 million owed to other clubs, includes £20 million compensation to Sheffield United.
-Alan Curbishley is still owed his severance deal after winning his case for constructive dismissal
-No-one owes West Ham any money, all player transfer fees that were received paid the bank debt immediately
-C.B. Holdings had borrowed money against the next two seasons season ticket revenue
-There is no money for strengthening the squad.

i just can’t see it happening

  • The Shire.. where have you been for the last few days… they just got taken over by some rich fellas, there paying off all the dept and investing around 20 mill in the squad…

  • Its probably of no consulation, but your lads deserve great credit for their performance tonight, its a shame there had to be a losing team. good luck for the rest of the season.

  • wow, really 23? i’ll have a look. all that article said was the new owners revealed how much debt the club is really in and were working to sort things out.

  • I have a couple of friends who are Hammer fans and they are not psyched about the new owners. Supposedly the new owners have not paid down any of the inherited debt. Rather, they borrowed against future earnings (tv, tickets, sponsorships) to bridge current debts. This is exactly the sham that is going on at Man U. WHU is not going to be fiscally secure any time soon and the big talk of Champions League is obviously to distract from what’s really going on. The PL needs to vet these potential owners better. Portsmouth and WHU are being robbed and it’s the fans who suffer

  • Bit low price for mccarthy. These east end business owners are always dodgy anyways, we want the money up front!…in cash!

  • West Ham have been bought by Sullivan and Gold haven’t they the former Birmingham porn kings… What I don’t understand is that they bought the club, and they want to pay off debts – that will never happen as it’ll be too expensive. Also, I wouldn’t want to sell Benni to them, especially as we’d be playing them soon in the league. Nothing worse than facing an old striker with a grudge!
