Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes has been withdrawn from the Scotland squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures due to a groin injury.

Rhodes, who has been in fine form for his club side in recent months, was tipped to lead the line this week due to injuries to other strikers in the Scotland squad but will instead have to miss out.

Scotland assistant boss Mark McGhee told Sky Sports, ‘Jordan (being out) is a real blow. The manager feels a little bit frustrated that he’s not been able to give Jordan a real opportunity.

‘Jordan might have got that chance this time around and now he’s out. That’s a shame, we would have liked Jordan here but these things happen.’

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has recently been sceptical towards Rhodes’ ability to lead the line for his country despite a fine goalscoring record in the Championship.

Hopefully it is just one of those ‘injuries’ that ruled Ryan Giggs out of many a international.
