Rovers striker Maceo Rigters (yes he is still alive and well) wants to force a new future for himself after failing to adapt to life in the Premier League so far.

Maceo was signed with much fanfare after winning the golden boot in Euro under 21’s back in 2007 but has failed to make even the slightest impression in England, even being considered for a switch to Kilmarnock last season.

But Rigters is convinced that with Rovers so far being a big fat flop trying to sign fire power in the transfer market this summer that he can be an option at the club.

Maceo, spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said – “Last year I didn`t play in the games before the season, now I am there and I scored a goal.

‘I hope my chances are bigger but we`ll see what happens.

‘I`ve no idea. I`ll just do my best in pre-season, get fit and see what happens.

“I don`t know what will happen. We haven`t talked about it.

‘I`m just thinking about getting fit and see what happens then.

‘But I know I can play football and I know I can score goals here.

‘I`m just going to keep on working.

“I`ve scored a lot of goals in the reserves but I have to see where I`m going to start playing football.

‘I hope it`s at Blackburn because I like the club and I really want to play in the Premier League.”

With only Niko and J-Rob at the club that can be labelled as an out and out striker, Allardyce currently considers Rigters as his third choice striker.

Rigters has played in all of the friendlies that Rovers have played so far and even bagged a goal against Southport at the weekend.

The Dutchman is keen to grab his chance.

Rigters continued – “It`s always an opportunity and I can do well if I can get a chance.

‘I don`t look at other strikers, I look at myself. If I can do well, let`s see what happens.

“Maybe I`ll get a couple of chances or I`ll go on loan.

‘Of course scoring is always important for a striker.

‘I got a goal at Southport and in my next game I hope to score again.

“I`m not a quitter. I`m still trying and we`ll see what happens.

‘I don`t know. I`ll just do my best and see what happens.

‘I haven`t talked to the gaffer yet but he selected me.”

With the lack of options available it is fair to say we are going to see Maceo Rigters make the most of his last chance saloon.
