He may be much maligned but he’s got his pre-season campaign off to a rip roaring start.

Rovers ran out comfortable winners this lunch time in a specially arranged friendly against Oldham Athletic at Brockhall.

Rovers and Oldham took part in two adjacent games played on opposite pitches with all of the usual first team names taking part.

The games also meant a reunion with former Rover Paul Dickov who is manager of Oldham.

In the first game Jason Roberts grabbed the spoils with a hat-trick in a 5-0 coast with further goals from young prospect Adam Henley and master of the universe/general king of Spain Michel Salgado.

In the opposite game Oldham managed to level proceedings by beating the other Rovers side 1-0 in a closely fought game.

The Rovers official website is reporting that 24 first team players got a run out in all as this kick about gave Steve Kean’s boys a good early run out.
