Blackburn Rovers forward Jason Roberts has signed a new three-year contract with Rovers.

Talk of a new deal for the 30-year-old has been going for a while but this new deal (which will run until 2011 with the option of a further year) has now been signed and Roberts is very happy to have got this out of the way and is looking to return the compliment on this faith shown in him.

Roberts told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I’ve been happy since I’ve been here for the majority of the time, so I’m happy that it is now signed, sealed and delivered.

“I hope to show the best of my abilities on the pitch.

“It is for another three seasons so I’m very happy with that. I feel good, I feel strong, I feel like I’ve got a lot of experience and hopefully it will all come together now.

The Grenada International looked as though he would be leaving Ewood Park having requested a transfer (which was rejected) last season after becoming frustrated at his lack of opportunities under former Rovers manager Mark Hughes, but then he managed to break back into the starting XI and has been a near regular for Paul Ince. JR started the season superbly, but has gone off the boil slightly recently but this new deal could be the catalyst to re-ignite him again?!?!

Meanwhile Andy Cole is understood to have returned to Ewood in a coaching capacity.

Cole recently brought the curtain down on his playing career, ending this with Championship side Nottingham Forest and he will now join Ince’s coaching staff as a strikers coach.
