Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts is in negotiations with the club about extending his contract.

Roberts’ current deal expires at the end of the 2009-2010 season but talks have begun to extend this after a bright start to this season, and a decent run towards the end of the last.

Roberts told BBC Radio Lancashire: “We are having talks at the moment and hopefully something will come from that.

“I’m happy here and willing to work hard for my place.

The 30-year-old has been in and out of the side during his time at Ewood Park, and under Mark Hughes looked likely to leave but managed to regain his place and proved his worth. Under Paul Ince JR has flourished and his partnership with Roque Santa Cruz this season has proved most successful.

JR added: “It’s always hard when your in and out (of the team) but in modern-day football you have three or four players for each position and it is tough.

“I am always happy when I’m playing but I’m sure all the other players will say that too.

“If the manager and the chairman are happy for me to stay then hopefully we will work something out.
