Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts has suffered a fresh injury problem, which will sideline him for at least six weeks.

Having recently returned from one injury lay off, having suffered a groin injury in a freak training ground incident the 28-year-old suffered a broken metatarsal in the defeat to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

After starting the game in place of the already injured Shabani Nonda with Roberts looking to stake his claim and score his first Rovers goal since his £3 million summer arrival from Wigan Athletic he picked up his injury in an innocuous challenge with West Ham’s American defender Jonathan Spector with less than thirty minutes played.

This is a major blow not only to Roberts but Rovers also, with him being unable to really make the kind of impact we had been hoping for due to his unfortunate luck with injuries thus far during his Ewood career.

Six-eight weeks rehabilitation is the usual amount of time needed to recover from such an injury so it is possible, if not likely that Roberts will join Ryan Nelsen and Steven Reid (more likely to be out until February at least, maybe longer) in being out until early 2007…
