Rovers number one and Mr too good for England Paul Robinson has backed the purchase of his team by India’s Venkys by describing the transaction as a bargain.

Robbo has been at the Rovers for over two years now and has been here long enough to make his mind up about what the club means and what it is worth.

And the former England goalie believes that it could be a match made in owner/club heaven.

Robbo told the Lancashire Telegraph – “They have bought a fantastic football club. You look at our training facilities, the academy`s training facilities, the stadium itself.

“You never hear a lot about Blackburn Rovers off the field.

“It has been built on a solid foundation with the Walker family and the Walker foundation for a long time now and they can be proud of what they have achieved.

“Any football club is not going to turn away money.

“It is a sound investment and that is why it is a club that has been bought.

“It is an established club and there is massive potential for improvement in all areas on and off the field.

“I am sure they will see it as a business opportunity to market the club in Asia, the Middle East and India, and they will be trying to improve the club`s image.

“We just get on with our game. You do get the odd joke about what is happening, dressing room banter, but it doesn`t worry us what is happening off the pitch.”

Rovers are off to Old Trafford tomorrow and Paul believes that last weeks win over Villa has given Blackburn some breathing space.

It doesn’t take the pressure off in full apparently but after a poor start to the season things have turned around with three wins in four.

Robbo continued – “It was a big win for us at the weekend because the league is so tight at the moment. With us going to Old Trafford it took us away from that pack at the bottom of the league.

“We had a meeting a few weeks ago. The gaffer breaks it down into four stages of the season and we were unhappy with our first part of the season. We have made a good start to the second stage of the season and hopefully we can continue that.

“It is always a difficult place to go but we are in the fortunate position that no-one expects us to win, like nothing is expected of any team when they go to Old Trafford. But the way we are playing we are confident.

“I don`t think the pressure is completely off because we are in the Premier League and it is a results business. But because we have picked up results recently I guess the pressure has eased.

“No-one expects anyone to get anything at Old Trafford, that is in our favour. The only people that expect are the people from within Blackburn Rovers.

“The outside world don`t, that is an added bonus. The pressure we have got is the pressure we put on ourselves.”
