Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson is getting back to his very best and this form has ensured that he was again named in Fabio Capello’s latest England squad.

Capello (who was in the crowd as Arsenal beat Rovers on Sunday) included Robinson again when he announced his squad on Sunday evening for the World Cup Qualifiers against Ukraine and Belarus, however, the 29-year-old isn’t expecting to regain his number one shirt for again and is just focusing on playing well for Rovers, and doing this consistently for Rovers.

Robinson said: “I am concentrating on my own performances, it is just about playing well. It is about consistency, playing well, consistently well and turning in good performances for Blackburn.

“I am on the fringes of the England squad at the moment. The majority of time I have been getting in.

“But I am just enjoying my football again, concentrating on my performances and just focusing on myself. Anything else which comes with it is a bit of a bonus.

Robinson was superb against Arsenal and didn’t deserve to be beaten as many times as he was in the 6-2 defeat, however, Capello would’ve been impressed with what he saw and if Robbo continues to play like he has he has every chance of not only going to the 2010 World Cup Finals as part of the England squad but also going as to South African as the number one. However, this is something that the 41-time capped International will deal with if it comes along.

Robinson added: “I am trying not to think too much about it and put too much emphasis on it.

“If it comes along, I will just go with it and see where it takes me again.

Robbo is gaining in confidence (which was shattered at Tottenham Hotspur and with England), however, I personally feel that he is almost at the point where he’d be ready and be a VERY reliable number one for England again, if called on.

  • Spurs fan here and cannot speak highly enough about him. Strange how things go so wrong for no apparent reason (obviously we don;t know what goes on behind the scenes) but really hopes he gets back to where he was. I’ll never forget 30,000 fans singing happy birthday to him and the park lane crowd giving him a birthday card. Al the best Paul!

  • I think Robbo has started the season well – and as Tiny says – against Arsenal he didn’t have a chance with the six that went in, and he also made some excellent saves.

  • No question he’s playing well again and the confidence is creeping back in and i doubt he’l blame himself for letting in 6 goals as they were not his fault. It would of been a hell of a lot more if he wasnt in goals saturday. I’d rather he continue as he is without the england distraction but hes better than what england have presently IMO so only a matter of time.

  • Personally I think he is doing pretty good made a string of fantastic saves against arsenal that kept us in the hunt.
Even brad would have been beaten a couple of times against an arsenal attack in form. Hope it doesnt hurt his confidence though as we have a big game coming up

  • The best english goalkeeper there is at the moment on current form… his attitude is right as well. Stay slim, keep the performances up for his club side and international recognition will beckon again.
