Rochina backed to keep light shining bright

Ruben Rochina was rather good on Saturday wasn’t he? If only the other 10 lads on the same side had played nearly half as good as the Spanish fella then we may have been onto something.

That aside, Steve Kean has back his January signing to bring it for the rest of the season after marking his full debut with some lovely touches.

Ruben is from Barcelona originally but left Catalonia chasing regular game action.

His manager spoke to Sky Sports and said – ‘I thought he was excellent.

‘I didn’t tell him he was playing until Saturday morning to make sure he got a good night’s sleep. I thought he showed good composure, he showed good awareness, he picked out his passes.

‘He hit a brick wall a little bit towards the end as he was shattered so we had to take him off. But I think the fans will see that he’s a special talent and he’s got a big future with us.’

Now all we need is for Mauro Formica to rear his head?!

It was good to see Rochina play well as both Jermaine Jones and Roque Santa Cruz have proved largely ineffective as Kean signings. He needs some support from somewhere and the Spaniard may prove to be a turning point.
