Rovers have made an official approach for Monaco defender Cedric Mongongu with a fee being agreed today between the two clubs.

Monaco are royally screwed after being relegated to Ligue 2 last season and with Mongongu being one of their star names he is up for grabs at a reasonable price.

£2.5 million is believed to be the figure that has been agreed as Steve Kean’s men have moved in to negotiate the deal.

The deal probably won’t be done until next week at the earliest as Steve Kean is not back in the UK till next week.

The player himself told Sky Sports earlier this week – “I am hearing so many reports and claims about me through the papers, but I am still a Monaco player”

“I have a contract until 2013. I am only 22 years old and I have a long future ahead of me. Blackburn would be a good opportunity, but staying with a very good club in France can also be fantastic.

“Let`s wait and see what happens before August 31, when the speculation will stop.”

Mongongu is believed to be Phil Jones replacement and not an alternative for Chris Samba, just to make that clear before the press start salivating like a dog on a steady course of Strongbow Cider.
