Ewood Park crowds have not always; in fact more often than not been below what we would expect or at least hope. Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes has backed the price cutting efforts.

Football is an expensive hobby, but it is one that is more often than not well worth it. Rovers’ standard prices are already amoung the cheapest in the Premiership but with the club often slashing prices (including offering tickets for just £15 for adults against Middlesbrough last Saturday) in an attempt to increase attendances.

Prior to the Middlesbrough game Hughes gave the schemes his backing, he said:

We are trying to encourage more people to come to Ewood Park on a regular basis and, as a club, I think we are to be congratulated on the many initiatives we have put forward over recent months.

We feel we are one of the better clubs in respect of trying to give fans the incentive to come along and give them good deals to recognise their loyalty.

We had a great response when we did a similar thing leading into the Bolton game. It was a local derby, a game when maybe some clubs would put a premium on tickets, but we actually slashed the cost and we got a fantastic response.

Obviously we had a huge crowd against Liverpool on Boxing Day and if we can follow it up with a huge crowd against Middlesbrough then that would be great.

A huge crowd that gets emotionally involved in the game can also play a big part in the performance of players.”

Reducing prices makes it all the more likely that fans new and old will visit Ewood, with regards to the new fans they may well become hooked and keep visiting time and time again. Hughes added:

We understand it is expensive week-in and week-out, but I think clubs try and make an effort to drag fans into the ground and get them back in the habit. There are so many other things that people can do as individuals and as families that if they stop going to football matches they just get out of the habit and unfortunately it is very difficult to get those people back in.

So if we can encourage them by making it a little bit more affordable then hopefully that will have an effect.”
