It was a matter of 2 games within four days, with Blackburn rather unfortunate not to still remain undefeated in this years edition of the Barclays Premier League

The trip to Birmingham was always going to be a difficult tie, however Blackburn did have the chances, but just could not seal the game, in which England Keeper Ben Foster put in a superb shift.

A goal to Steven Nzonzi came abouts after consistent pressure from Blackburn, who could count themselves unlucky not to already have been leading, as Morten Gamst Pedersens pin point penalty was spectacularly saved by Foster. However Rovers did get their due rewards, a Gamst Corner flicked on at the near post by Nzonzi and into the back of the net. 1-0 Blackburn

Unfortunately for Rovers, sloppy defending cost them a quick equaliser. A long ball found the far post, in turn crossed in to Gardner, who was left with the simplest of finishes…1-1.

Gardner proved to be the thorn, as he soon bagged a second, 20 minutes from time. After picking up the ball on the half Gardner scooted and blasted from 30 yards, his well struckshot finding the bottom corner of the net, 2-1 Blackburn…

Late chance by Samba hit the woodwork, and Rovers left empty handed….

However it was muchbetter news midweek, as a hattrick from Mame Biram Diouf ensured Rovers headed into the third round, downing Norwich at Ewood Park, 3-1…

Rovers took the lead after 30 minutes, Samba flicking on a Gamst long throw, with Diouf poking in at the far net. Diouf then missed a sitter, striking the woodwork with an open header, whlst Gamst looked strong up front…

It took Rovers until late on to clinch the game, wih Diouf bagging a second and third with his head, and Norwich claiming a late consolation…..
