Rovers Chairman to talk with Neill?

In the wake of Blackburn Rovers defender Lucas Neill’s recent comments chairman John Williams has said that talks on his future had been planed upon his return from International duty.

Williams has said he had agreed to speak to Neill about his future when he returned from Australia, and still hoped to persuade him to remain at Ewood Park, but following Neill’s comments at the end of last week I’m not sure that any amount of talking will change the situation now? When speaking the Lancashire Evening Telegraph Williams said:

I spoke to Lucas as he left the stadium after the game on Sunday (with Wigan Athletic) to catch his flight and I said to him that we would talk about his future when he got back and sort something out then, and he agreed.”

I would suggest that any hopes Williams and Rovers might have had of persuading the Aussie International to remain with Rovers beyond the summer, maybe even beyond January have all but disappeared now, if they hadn`t already?

Meanwhile it is being reported that West Ham United manager Alan Pardew is keen on Neill also, and West Ham could be ready to enter the race for Neill’s services? Liverpool remains Neill’s preferred choice but it is unclear as to whether or not they’ll return with a fresh offer in January.

Although West Ham are a good team, despite a difficult start to the season many Rovers fans would probably see a move to the Hammers as an insult to them as he claims the reason he wants to move is to better himself and further his career, which with all due respect to West Ham, who as I say are a very good team, would a move to Upton Park really be doing this?
