Blackburn Rovers are close to agreeing a contract with Robbie Fowler that would see him stay at Ewood Park, on a temporary basis at least.

Since leaving Cardiff City in the summer Fowler has been training with Rovers in an attempt to earn himself one last crack at the Premier League, and it is understood that he has done enough to convince Rovers manager Paul Ince that he is worth this chance. Ince had been impressed with the 33-year-old, and after being included in the Rovers team photo he should be confirmed anytime now.

Ince is quoted on Sky Sports as saying: “We are close to doing something with Robbie. He’s been different class in training in the last few days.

“Robbie is a Premier League goalscorer and he always will be, but the only issue is getting his sharpness back.

It is understood that the former England International will sign a pay-as-you-play deal for an initial six-month period.
