Rovers Form Concerning Hughes

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has voiced his concerns over the current slump in form we’ve seen, and one man in particular Benni McCarthy paid this price this week.

We have won just ONE of our last eight matches, and the three goals conceded in the Carling Cup Quarter Final defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday Evening made is eight goals conceded in two matches, and now we have to entertain Chelsea on Sunday then we travel to Manchester City the day after Boxing Day (and they have a 100% home record in the Premier League.) These problems (as Hughes has expressed) he feels, which is a concern form him are due to the lack of confidence he feels his side are showing.

Hughes said: “There are other players in the team who are struggling with form.

“That is a concern and at the weekend I’ll have to freshen things up because we have a big game
.”

One man that was not exactly singled out, but mentioned by name (which was more to explain why he was left out of the starting line-up for the Arsenal match) was McCarthy, who has struggled for goals this season as has failed to score since the end of October, which led to Sparky dropping him due to his lack of confidence.

Hughes added: “At the moment, Benni is finding it a little bit difficult in that respect.”

“Benni has had a period when he hasn’t scored goals.

“Obviously there is a confidence thing there as well.

“Roque (Santa Cruz) has come through it and I’m sure Benni will as well.

“He’s a quality player but I have to go with the players who are showing confidence in their play and ability to affect games
.

McCarthy will obviously want to play, but if he isn’t playing well he can’t keep a place in the team, which leaves Sparky in difficult position, but then it will be down to how McCarthy reacts. If he does react in the right way things will come good again, if he reacts in a negative way that is when there might be trouble!!!
