Rovers have been handed an early announcement for the opening weekend of the Championship season.

The Football League celebrates 125 years in existence next season and to celebrate the occasion they League has announced some special commemorative fixtures to be played on the opening weekend between founder members and teams of historical significance.

As a result Blackburn Rovers will be away to Derby County on the opening weekend of the Championship, both of whom were founder members of the Football League.

Other fixtures have been announced such as the pairing of Burnley and Bolton, who will face each other on the same day.

Little surprise to warm up for the football season, full fixture schedules are released tomorrow.
