Rovers look set to go abroad in their quest for the striker they need to bang in the goals next season.

Having failed to identify suitable replacements for Judas Cruz and Matt Derbyshire, John Williams and Sam Allardyce are now looking overseas for someone that fits the bill – i.e. can score a lot and doesnt break the wage barrier like Michael Owen and Peter Crouch.

John Williams said, speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph – ‘We have been looking around for a proven Premier League striker but it is proving a difficult task,’

‘We may need to look abroad and go down that route.’

In other news, Rovers are waiting for an answer over Franco Di Santo from Chelsea but have confirmed that would NOT replace the need for a main striker.

Williams, however, dismissed suggestions they had made a move to bring back former striker Kevin Davies from Bolton.

‘Di Santo is a player we are interested in but we have not enquired about Kevin Davies,’ he said.

‘(Bolton chairman) Phil Gartside phoned me to clarify the rumours, not the other way round.’

Good old JW – absolute clarity at it’s finest. An honest chairman, who would of thought?

Perhaps the reason Rovers are hanging tight over Di Santo is showing we do want him and will probably get him but there is no rush. He is going to be somewhat of a luxury extra.
