It was a battle of those with money and those without, as Blackburn made the trip to Eastlands to fight the mega rich Manchester City. 4-4-2 it was for the day with

Robinson
Givet
Samba
Nelsen
Salgado
Gamst
Grella
Jones
Diouf
Diouf
Kalinic

It was almost the worst possible start for Rovers. England international Adam Johnson darted down the right flank, tearing past Gael Givet, into the box. His blasted effort was well saved by Robinson. Minutes later, more of the same, this time Johnson attempted to bend it into the far corner, past the outstretched palm of Robbo, but not enough curl to trouble the scorers.

Tevez was next to trouble the defence, his angled shot well saved by the former England Number One, up against his protege Joe Hart.

In a brute piece of luck, Gamst Pedersen sent the ball sky high for Kalinic to chase. For some wierd, strange reason, Joe Hart dashed out 30 yards, whilst Kolo Toure let the ball bounce. The ball evaded both players, leaving Kalinic to strike into an empty net from 20 yards….A sense of dejavu for the young Croation, after picking u his first goal against Everton in similar fashion. 1-0 Rovers.

MB Diouf should have made it 2 nil, striking wide, whilst Kalinic also had a chance after the break, but Hart was alert to make the save.

However, it was City who troubled the scorers next. Tevez left unmarked on the right flank, swerving a cross into the 6 yard box. Givet left Viera free, tapping in to equalise. 1-1

Salgado, Nelsen and Grella made way for Olsson, Chimbonda and Nzonzi

City continued to push on, with Robinson the saviour, parrying attempts from Jo and Tevez, whilst Chris Samba provided a last ditch tackle to ensure Tevez’ strike drifted wide. Gareth Barry struck late on, but Robinson was again up to the task, parrying wide for a corner

Rovers almost clinched a late winner, wit Kalinic threaded through, but Hart rushed out and made the necessary save ensuring points were shared at Eastlands
