Blackburn Rovers are adamant that they are not going to turn their back on young domestic talent, despite the trend that is currently going on.

These thoughts comes from Rovers chairman John Williams in the wake of 17-year-old Alex Marrow signing a contract with the club until the end of the season (at least.) Marrow won a keep-up competition, which impressed the club and he is already impressing in the Under-18’s and in the reserves for Glyn Hodges. Williams hopes that Matt Derbyshire’s breakthrough can be an example for others to follow that anything is possible and Marrow is another example that Rovers WILL continue to look towards British talent.

Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: “From our point of view, we cannot afford to miss any opportunity to pick up good young players.

“Matt Derbyshire is a good example. It’s important that we don’t turn our backs on promising young players like him. We must explore every avenue.

“With Alex, he came to us after he won a keepy-uppy competition and he’s been recommended by Glyn Hodges.

“They already like him down there. They’ve seen something in him, and we’ve given him a contract until the end of the season
