Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has admitted that he is weighing up a potential short term move for former Rovers defender Lucas Neill.

Neill has been training with the club for the last few months as he attempts to win a move to a new club – with both eyes fixed firmly on the World Cup in the summer.

But Rovers have been cautious over Neill, with the player now in the autumn of his career and having seen better days. Having said that, Bowyer has confirmed that all options are being considered, with the sale of Scott Dann on transfer deadline day meaning Rovers need defensive reinforcement.

Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph – “I`ve said all along you can never say never and that is the same situation now.

“Lucas and myself have been very honest with each other right from the start, we both know where we stand.

“If the opportunity for Lucas to join another club comes along then that is a possibility.

“But at the same time we would have to sort something out if we thought something suited us.”

A fair portion of the Rovers faithful will find it difficult to forgive Lucas for the way in which he left the club – pushing for a move to a European qualifying club like Liverpool, before eventually moving on to near relegated West Ham for mega wages.
