Blackburn Rovers striker Maceo Rigters has been sent out on loan for the season to Barnsley by manager Paul Ince.

The former Netherlands Under-21 International has struggled to make an impact at Ewood Park since his arrival from NAC Breda last summer, and with his chances likely to again be limited this season (with Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy, Jason Roberts, Matt Derbyshire and maybe even Robbie Fowler ahead of him) he has joined the Championship side for the season to get regular football under his belt in an attempt to see the 24-year-old regain the form that saw him light up the European Under-21 Championships in 2007 return?

Meanwhile another Rover had also left Ewood on loan as Gunnar Nielsen has joined Motherwell for six-months.

The Faroe Island Under-21 goalkeeper is looking to gain some first team experience and push for a starting place in the team.

Nielsen told the Official Motherwell Website: “I’ve come here for six months and I will do my best to push Graeme for the first-team shirt.

“Hopefully I will get into the team and my aim is to improve myself as a player and help the club as much as I can.
