Rovers Let The Fans Down!!!

Blackburn Rovers fans at the annual disabled fans Christmas do were left outraged after not a SINGLE Rovers player turned up!!!

The event HAD been organised several months in advance and had completely sold out, with 300 people attending the event in the Premier Suite at Ewood Park, yet because the event took place two days after the 5-3 defeat to Wigan Athletic and a day before the Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal a club official said that nobody, due to club committments couldn make it!

This Rovers spokesperson told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It was inevitable that players wouldn’t be there with a game the next day, and Wigan put the tin lid on it. Because of that nobody was allowed to attend and Ronnie and Brian were there to represent the players side.

“We are really sorry because it is something that has always been supported and we are disappointed that the players could not go. Unfortunately the game does have to be the priority
.”

It is understandable to a VERY, VERY small degree that this would be the attitude but with Rovers having played the Carling Cup tie AT HOME it is not as if the players would have had to have gone out of their way?!?! They might not live locally, but then they just stay in a hotel overnight or something, it’s not like they couldn’t afford it! There MUST have been some players that could have attended?

Robert Cox, who is a 46-year-old life long Rovers fan, had purchased seventeen tickets for his family and friends who help him look after his disabled son Andrew, 24. He was RIGHTLY outraged.

Mr Cox said: “I think it’s an absolute disgrace that they have the chance to be heroes for people and they didn’t turn up.

“The club scheduled the event for Monday so that it did not clash with any games, but then we were knocked out of Europe and Rovers played Arsenal in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

“I understand that the team and the reserves would have to rest at home, but Rovers has more than 30 players on its books so somebody could have come.

“Brett Emerton was suspended for Tuesday’s match, and they could have made it part of his punishment to come along
.”

Poetic justice for Mr Cox would have been for Rovers to have played the Carling Cup match against Arsenal in front of an empty Ewood Park.

He added: “I would have liked for the team to have gone out on Tuesday and for the stands to have been empty, then they would know what it feels like to be let down by those you rely on.

“Brian Douglas and Ronnie Clayton were there. They haven’t stepped on the pitch for years – they are ambassadors for the club. Rovers are always talking about getting more people to come and watch matches but then they do this and let down their loyal fans
.”

We are quick enough to praise Rovers (and rightly so) when they do GREAT things, but we also have to give them a lot of stick when they do things like this, which I find absolutely disgusting and it makes me feel ashamed that Rovers could do something like this, as this isn’t something that I would have expected from such a club!
