Reports are suggesting that Blackburn Rovers are close to offering Gunnar Nielsen a contract at Ewood Park.

20-year-old Nielsen, a goalkeeper from the Faroe Islands has recently been on trial with Rovers from Danish club Frem. After impressing his English representative Barry Silkman is claiming an offer is close. He said:

He impressed very much and they are keen.

“We are waiting for them to get back to us and we will take things from there
.”

Brad Friedel recently signed a contract extension with Rovers to stay with the club until the summer of 2009 at least, but with him not getting any younger and Peter Enckelman out-of-contract in the summer, and likely to leave Rovers appear to be looking to strengthen this departments. Adding Nielsen to current back-up goalkeeper Jason Brown might not be a bad thing.
