Blackburn Rovers’ off the field marketing team have been recognised with their hard work and effort at the North West Football Awards. Here’s the latest press release from Ewood Park (below).

ROVERS MARKETING TEAM SCORE OFF THE PITCH AT FOOTBALL AWARDS
Blackburn Rovers’ commercial and marketing team secured off the field recognition after winning an honour at the inaugural North West Football awards.

The club’s “We Believe” initiative, which was launched to support its decision to drastically reduce ticket prices this season, received the accolade for Best Club Marketing Campaign.

Ewood Park officials pledged to use £1m of television revenue to cut the average cost of an adult season ticket by 25% and reduce matchday prices in a move that won widespread support from fans and the media.

The in-house marketing team created “We Believe” which was designed to forge a “back to basics” feel and rekindle the emotions that make people want to go to a live match in the first place. At the core of its message was the belief that “football is for fans.”

The campaign’s manifesto was set out in an easy to read mailer and poster format. Billboard posters around the region, branded taxis and buses, adverts in newspapers, regional radio and advertising hoardings at the ground all carried the “We Believe” message.

Simon Williams, Head of Commercial and Marketing, was presented with the award at the ceremony at the Midland Hotel.

Mr Williams said: “The North West is a stronghold of football in this country so to win this award is a tribute to everyone at the club who has worked hard to attract more supporters through the turnstiles.

“We wanted to reignite the passion of supporters and get back into Ewood Park to watch the action live rather than sitting at home or in the pub.

“Attendances have been up this season but we are not complacent and we will carry on looking for innovative ways to encourage supporters to continue to come and watch live Premier League football at Ewood Park.

“However you are only as good as your product and the team is playing some great football at the moment which is also helping to attract more fans to matches.”

Rovers work in the local community was also highly commended by judges at the ceremony and manager Mark Hughes was short listed for manager of the year.

Congratulations to all concerned, A LOT of hard work and effort has hone into the “We Believe” marketing ply (and others) and any praise and recognition is fully deserving.
