Rovers Met By Large Police Presence

Incredibly Blackburn Rovers’ travelling fans for this weekend’s Intertoto Cup match with FK Vetra will be outnumbered almost three to one by a heavy police presence.

Following the scenes when Legia Warsaw fans stormed onto the pitch in FK Vetra’s last Round Intertoto Cup match (which resulted in Warsaw’s expulsion, and Vetra’s progression) security has been increased dramatically to counter a repeat performance from the travelling Rovers fans.

Obviously the 120 or so travelling WILL NOT repeat such acts, but even so to ensure this 300 Police Officers have been drafted. However, Rovers understand why this move has been taken (and take NO offence to it) with the Lancashire Police consulting with the Lithuanian authorities.

Club Secretary Andrew Pincher told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

The unfortunate events against Legia Warsaw has resulted in increased security for our game.

“But that was to be expected and is no reflection whatsoever on Blackburn Rovers.

“Indeed, officials over there are well aware of our reputation as a family club.

“Clearly, and as a matter of course, we would like to ask that anyone travelling to support us plays their part in ensuring that the match passes without incident
