Blackburn Rovers Football Club seems to be the pioneers of the great deal to football fans scheme; something others could follow, but will argue they have no need.

The club have just sent me this press release (below) detailing the latest offer the club is offering its fans for the UEFA Cup tie on Thursday and the type of reaction it has received…

BLACKBURN’S EUROPEAN BONUS WINS FANS SUPPORT

FANS have welcomed the announcement by Blackburn Rovers to offer free entry for season ticket holders to the second leg of their UEFA Cup clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

In an added bonus, adult non season ticket holders will be charged just £15, senior citizens will pay £5 while under 16s will pay only £1 to watch the game at Ewood Park.

Students will also benefit as they will be charged just £5 on production of their Student Card.

Rovers have introduced the measure after announcing the kick off time will be at 6:05pm on Thursday, February 22, because of television scheduling.

There has been a buzz around the town since the announcement with supporters keen to take advantage of the offer and help cheer Rovers into the next round.

Paal Soberg, 22, a Norwegian student at Manchester University comments:

It’s an excellent offer, absolutely cracking. It’s all about getting back into the stands at Ewood and Blackburn’s efforts have been second to non. Allowing season ticket holders for free is an excellent method of treating the fans.”

Philip Lloyd a season ticket holder from Beardwood, Blackburn, comments:

They really have made the best of the situation and it’s satisfying to see Rovers’ supporting their own fans while at the same time protecting the interests of the full season ticket holder. I personally applaud Rovers.”

Mark Hindle, of Tockholes Road, Darwen comments: “It`s a great idea and fantastic to see Rovers’ appreciation for their season ticket holders. Obviously we’ve made a lot of money from the German TV rights so it’s important for Rovers to put a good show on the pitch and in the stands. A full, lively stadium will reflect well in front of an international audience.”

Blackburn chairman John Williams said: “We recognise the kick off time is not going to be ideal for some supporters but there are financial benefits for us to consider.

The reduced ticket prices reflect this inconvenience and are also a thank you to our season ticket holders who make a major contribution to the club every year.

We hope all fans will make the effort to get to the game because as Mark said recently, the players respond to a full house and we want to recreate the same atmosphere we had against Liverpool over the festive period.

Blackburn have been at the forefront of trying to find ways of improving attendances this season.

The reduced prices for the UEFA Cup clash game are just one of several initiatives introduced by the club including Half Season Tickets, a loyalty scheme and cheap tickets for schools.
