Rovers Pick Up “Psychological” Win

Like most, in fact all of the Vital Blackburn Rovers members Rovers boss Mark Hughes hopes (if not in private expects) that the 4-2 win over Manchester City will act as a catalyst to get the season going.

After the victory Rovers victory at Ewood Park, the first of the season in any competition at any venue Hughes would say:

This was a big psychological result for us today.”

It was important we got our first win, and in particular our first at home where a lot of our success for last season was based.”

The first win of the 2006-2007 campaign should be a real boost to Hughes and his side, in theory the only way is up now. Hughes would express his pleasure at the win, and a move up the table but wants the fans to remain grounded:

With this win we’ve moved up several places in the table, but it’s still very early days and no-one should get too excited or too anxious at this stage of the season.”

This will obviously help us and settle us down and I hope we can now look forward to another successful season – but that’s based on the second half performance, not the first.”

The win, with another four goals, including McCarthy’s second in as many games, and third in six outings in total would be a bonus, the worrying point would be the conceding of yet more goals… Another two on Sunday means that is eight league goals conceded already in five games, having conceded only forty-two in the whole of the 2005-2006 Premiership season!

So long as Rovers keep scoring most won’t mind them conceding goals here and there, although it is something you would rather not see.
