Blackburn Rovers are understood to be preparing an offer for Swedish striker Denni Avdic.

Newspaper reports are saying that Sam Allardyce has sent scouts to IF Elfsborg’s UEFA Europa League match against Napoli this evening to cast an eye over the 21-year-old as the Rovers manager prepares to try and make some last minute transfers before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Rovers are understood to have made enquiries about the Swede who is rated at £2million and is also interesting West Bromwich Albion.

Allardyce has made no secret that it’s his desire to add to the Rovers squad before the transfer window closes and a striker would be top of his priority list with Ivelin Popov and Benjani also possibilities.

  • As I have been saying all along, I think 3 strikers will be brought in. But I only think we will buy one outright. So if we do get Avdic and Popov, I suspect Avdic will be a loan with a view to buy. Benjani is a certainty to join, so that would make up the 3 strikers. Let’s hope something happens soon! It’s been a boring window for Rover’s fans, like usual.

  • Would Benjani really be such a bad signing? I know he is not a great goalscorer, but he is a pretty decent player. Pompey fans used to love the guy, he works very hard for the team and would be ideal as an impact sub. He won’t cost us a transfer fee, and will probably only cost 12-15k per week in wages.

  • As a fourth striker I must say that Benjani would not be a bad option! Does anyone know anything about this lad??

  • Denni Avdic is a Swedish footballer of Bosnian descent, he has started the new Swedish Allsvenskan season in amazing form, scoring 17 goals in 20 league appearances and is the league’s top scorer. Avdic also ranks as one of the best scorers per minute in the world, scoring a goal every 84 minutes (he has played a total of 1432 minutes this season)

When he was 15 years old he was signed by Brondy IF of the Danish league, but never played any senior games. Wanting to play near his family, in 2006 Avdic signed for Elfsborg where he has been playing ever since. Avdic has been praised as one of Sweden’s greatest talent’s for some time now, but this season he has finally shown what he is capable of, ranking as one the best strikers in the league.

The 1.90m-tall striker was a part of Sweden’s Under-21 national squad and also has one cap for the full national team.

Avdic is described as a target striker, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, because of his great technique. He has great finishing skills and heading abilities, but is a little slow on his feet.

Althogh he has made 1 apperance for Sweded, he is still eliglbe to play for Bosnia as the game he played was not an official FIFA match.

  • He sounds a lot like Niko kalinic to me. sounds like he knows where the net is though which is the main thing. If JR goes and we get this lad with maybe either Benjani or Popov we’ll have good options up front at long last.

  • The LET says a deal for Avdic is unlikely, but it does not state why. If it’s a choice between Popeye and Avdic, I would take Avdic based off what I have heard about him. I would like both though, bring Popov in permanently and take Avdic on loan with a view to buy.

  • TBF I dont think any of us have actually seen either play. And doesnt Niko know where the woodwork is as well?!?!

  • Sorry Mikey that didn’t quite come out right. I wasn’t slating Niko’s striking ability we all know he know’s where the frame is, i think he’s a top player with bags of potential. I just think with Ben’s description of Avdic ie pace, height etc he sounds a little similar to Kalinic.
