Blackburn started the week on a positive run of form and in good spirits.
However, defeat in the Lancashire derby against Preston was followed up by another when promotion chasing Brighton beat us in midweek to see Rovers drop into the bottom three ahead of the visit from Reading today.
Owen Coyle is keen for Blackburn to end the week on a high at Ewood Park but is aware we’ll face another stern challenge against a Reading side that sit 3rd in the Championship table.
Ahead of this game he’s told rovers.co.uk we’ll have to be at our best to beat Jaap Stam’s side.
‘We are playing against a very good side, a side that is up there at the top of the table on merit so we are going to have to be at our very best.’
This next home game coming so quickly – as we seek that reaction to the last Ewood reverse in midweek – pleases Coyle who added the best way to put that disappointment behind us is by putting on a performance this afternoon.
‘When you’ve come off the disappointment of Tuesday you want to get back on that horse and bounce back quickly, and the important thing always when you’ve had a disappointment is how you react to it. We now have an opportunity at home against a good side to show that we are ready to go and be more than capable of winning the points and being at our best.’
The boss went on to say this is a game where we can look to prove what we’re capable of against a promotion chasing side – Reading have lost their last two away games – as we target a crucial three points.
‘It is a great game to look forward to, the players are in good heart, they know what they are capable of and that is getting a valuable and important three points at this time of the season.’
