Could all predictions be thrown out of the window following the reporting of this latest news?

Blackburn Rovers, yes that unfashionable small town club in Lancashire who everyone over-looks, including the Match Of The Day producers, have been recognised today; well manager, Mark Hughes has.

Mark Hughes has been awarded the manager of the month accolade for October after guiding Rovers on an unbeaten run through the month. In fact Rovers won every game in the October.

Mark Hughes has been recognised for his superb ability in bringing out the best in players that has seen positive results ensue.

Rovers currently lie in 6th place in the division with a game in hand on the sides above them but face their sternest test yet on Sunday when they travel to Old Trafford to face, arguably Europe`s most in-form team, Manchester United.

Hughes has maintained his normal composed demeanour and has been quick to praise the efforts of the whole team of players and staff. He is quoted on the official Rovers website saying:

Obviously it is recognition for the work my staff and players have done; they have been magnificent in this last month. Perhaps we are finally turning people’s opinions of us around.

‘The only negative in the season so far is the European exit. We were really disappointed about that because we felt we could have had a real impact on the competition this year.

‘But when you have a disappointment you have to bounce back and the players have done that. We are on the back of a great unbeaten run, we are playing well and everybody is looking forward to the big game at the weekend against Manchester United.

However, the dreaded curse of the award that struck the last Rovers boss to win the award, Graeme Souness, has already waved the finger of doom, compelling Wayne Rooney, the recipient of the player of the month award, to a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Hughes is clearly aware of this curse stating:

I wonder if I should be commiserated in fairness. Usually a defeat follows after you receives the award. Maybe Sir Alex refused it with the hope that they would give it to me and he would be able to overcome my team!

Let us just hope that Hughes and Fergie can toast his success over a hard fought positive result for Rovers on Sunday evening.
