Mark Hughes has released Peter Enckelman, Stephane Henchoz and Bruno Berner as he begins preparations for next season, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

Whilst their release will come of nothing of a shock to the VBer community, it leaves Peter Enckelman without a club after helping Cardiff reach its first FA Cup Final in over 80 years. Regardless of his Cup Final blunder, he performed sterling work for them since joining them on loan in January in a bid to earn regular first-team action.

Enckelman joined Rovers from Aston Villa in January 2004, yet he had made just two Premier League appearances, much in part to the amazing fitness and consistency of Brad Friedel.

Stephane Henchoz, first signed by Roy Hodgson in the late 1990’s, left to join Liverpool before eventually being picked up on a free by Rovers, via Wigan, two seasons ago, failed to make a single appearance this season. The VBER community feared it was down to the fact that he always looks knackered but with the emergence of Samba, along with Ooijer and Zurab as the main backups to the first team, left ‘Hedgehog’ out in the cold.

Bruno Berner, signed for Rovers in January 2007 and made 2 appearances that season. After impressing in pre season, it was thought that he had forced his way into Hughes’ thinking for the first team, only for injury to rule him out of the start of the season. Berner never recovered and only managed 4 appearances this season and only 2 in the league, one which will live long in many Rovers fans memory for all the wrong reasons (Arsenal anyone?).

I am sure I speak for all the VBer community when I thank them for their efforts at Blackburn and wish them all good luck for the future.
