Some good news to wake up to this morning as a brace from Ruben Rochina has won Blackburn Rovers Reserves the Barclays Reserve League North trophy.

Rovers triumphed 2-1 over Saturday’s Premier League opponents with goals from the former Barcelona man within ten minutes of each other in the first half giving Rovers a 2-0 half time lead.

The first strike in particular was a terrific effort from 25 yards just as Rovers looked like they might be overrun with United looking rampant in the early stages.

David Petrucci reduced the arrears for Man Utd in the second half from the penalty spot but it wasn’t enough as the only side who looked likely to score further were Rovers.

Bad news came with the news that Rochina came in for some rough treatment from the Red Devils in the second half and one crunching tackle ended up dislocating the Spaniard’s shoulder.

But that was the only negative on a night of positives for Rovers as they advance to play Chelsea next Monday to determine the overall winners.

Rovers lined up – Bunn, Henley, Hanley, Lowe, Morris, Parry, Formica, Rochina, Kalinic, Aley, Potts.
