After a string of victories, Blackburn Reserves headed to Eastlands confident of victory against Manchester City.

Rovers started of the brighter of the two, with a neat interchange passage between Treacy and Rigters setting up Sergio Peter who fired home a 30 yard stunner. Rigters almost doubled the lead soon after, but was prevented by the outside of the post.

Gunnar Nielson, Mark Hughes off season signing, showed exactly what he was about with a brilliant one handed save, preventing an early equaliser from City. 2 minutes later, Rovers were on the score sheet again. Reidy setting an overlap with Taylor, who whipped in a cross, neatly finished by Rigters.

However, Rovers let this lead slip almost immediately, as Ashely Grimes pulled a goal back for City, 2-1 Rovers. City almost equalised on the stroke of half time, with Nielson pulling of another fantastic save.

Poor defending cost Rovers, with City putting away two goals within the first 20 minutes of the second half. Rovers had no response, despite a late Header from Eddie Nolan landing on top of the goal.

dissapointing from the lads as the game was in their grasp. Good to see Reidy is back in full flight, playing the full 90 minutes
