It is thought that Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts could possibly feature in Rovers’ UEFA Cup second leg home tie against Salzburg next Thursday’s, according to manager Mark Hughes.

The 28-year-old Grenadian International injured his groin towards the beginning of September during training with what is thought to be the final kick of the session. He has since missed the 0-0 League match away to Sheffield United, the Salzburg UEFA Cup first leg tie in Austria and the 4-2 victory over Manchester City at Ewood Park, also in the League.

Roberts will not be available for the trip to the Riverside Stadium against Middlesbrough on Saturday, but it is believed that he stands a good chance of featuring in Thursday`s UEFA clash at Ewood Park should all go well.

Having Roberts back would be a huge Bonus for Hughes as he is very powerful and could cause Salzburg defenders many problems.

With Benni McCarthy and Francis Jeffers also at Hughes’ disposal not to mention Paul Gallagher, who has impressed as of late Hughes should not be short of options. Gallagher had a good game in the first leg and his goal as a late substitute against Manchester City could only be seen as encouraging for both him and Hughes.

Less we forget Shabani Nonda, his pace and power has looked impressive so far with his quick thinking earning Rovers the third goal on Sunday. It is only a matter of time before he opens his account, which he would have already done but for a great Nicky Weaver save.
