Rovers shoot themselves in the foot again

Phil Jones has a ‘release clause` in his Blackburn Rovers contract that would allow him to leave the club if any of the clubs circling him bid £16million.

Masterful contract negotiation has left Rovers with their hands tied in their attempts to keep Jones who is known to be an ambitious guy and would probably see a move to one of England’s leading lights as too good a chance to turn down.

There has even been a rumour that Jones met briefly with Steve Kean yesterday and informed him that he would like the chance to talk to other clubs if bids are received and accepted.

So in short, not good.

Bigwigs at Rovers are still hopeful that Jonesy will stay at the club for at least another season but the facts and the gossip seem to indicate that sounds like a losing battle.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Man United are all ready to rock and roll.

With those clubs chasing him we could have had the auctions to end all auctions. But due to clauses that we inserted in the contracts of Damien Duff and Craig Bellamy in the past it looks as if our hands are tied.
