Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who becomes Paul Ince’s first signing.

The 28-year-old England International has signed a five-year contract with a fee of £3.5 million paid to Tottenham. The signing of Robinson means that Brad Friedel is now set to complete his move to Aston Villa, which could be for as much as £2.75 million.

Robinson is a very good goalkeeper who I personally believe will benefit from making the move to Ewood Park, which will hopefully also benefit England at International level as well with him looking to regain his position firstly in the England squad then as the number one once again.

  • Great signing welcome Paul.I cant help but compare him to David James.A man once nicknamed calamity who has come through to be one of the best keepers in the country. We can only hope that the same thing happens with Paul.Good luck Englands no 1

  • You’ll love him, top bloke. Had a brilliant relationship with the fans just such a shame he lost his confidence in the last year and a half. ENGLANDS, ENGLANDS NUMBER ONE, ENGLANDS NUMBER ONE. Good luck with him, hope it works out

  • Its a good bit of business for Blackburn and Villa.Robinson just needs to get his head straight and he’ll be great.Best of luck next season lads.

  • Welcome Paul, a great addition in net, a fresh start for Paul and with his confidence back will replace the great Brad. Heres to you Mr.Robinson.

  • We needed a keeper, and he is a kepper. He showed he was very good at Leeds, he was good for Spurs, albeit last season, where his confidence took a knock. I’m sure Ince and the backroom staff, and the players will raise his confidence, and we’ll have a further England international on our hands.

  • U dont become a bad player over night, Robinson showed at Leeds and his early career with Spurs that he’s a good keeper, I dont think he should be seen to replace Brad, more rather he’s a different kind of keeper in his own rite! Like i remember when i thought we wouldnt replace Flowers! Football is a game that goes forward and Rovers will – Brad was a God send of a player but we now have an established keeper in his own rite and this shouldnt be lost, Look at whwn Utd tried to ‘replace’ Smichael, they had good players in but they couldnt live with the pressure, Robinson’s confidence was hit last yr let alone with trying to live up to one of the best keepers our league has seen

  • I think that at about £1m ( taking in the fee for Brad ) to sign England’s former No1 keeper, with the potential to be again is as good a signing as Hughes ever made! Hopefully with more to follow. I think Ince did exceptionally well replacing Brad – who after all asked to go – with a proven international with champions league experience

  • worst case scenario Paul flounders and is a dud. best case scenario, he quickly rediscovers his form and you’ve got a good *young* keeper. it’s worth the gamble.

  • I hope he can keep hic concentration. He is a cracking keeper when on form. He does tend to have his calamity moments though.
