Both Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur have had the appeals they lodged against Tugay and Hossam Ghaly sending’s off’s rejected by the FA.

The two clubs contested referee Phil Dowd’s decision to send them off but the FA, or their independent commission have rejected the appeals and stood by Dowd and his officials.

Tugay will now serve a one-match ban, meaning he’ll have to sit out the match with Fulham a week Saturday.

We are very disappointed indeed to have lost the appeal for we felt is was a harsh decision to send off Tugay,” said Rovers boss Mark Hughes.

Not only did we concede a debatable penalty and also lose a key player for a third of the game, but we now miss Tugay through suspension.

We do not feel that the incident merited that level of punishment.”

Things are worse for Spurs’ Ghaly, he will serve a three-match ban for his sending off for violent conduct. An offence the Egyptian vigorously denies, which if I am honest I think he has a case. He seemed to lead with the elbow so arguably the intent was there but no real offence took place.

Personally I feel that both were (a) very unfortunate to be sent off in the first place and (b) unfortunate not to see the cards removed.

Until the FA re-think their interpretation of the rules and bring more common sense into their thinking especially into the mandatory amount of games a suspension carries for each offence you are sent off for this kind of thing will keep happening?
