Blackburn Rovers seem to have beaten off two North East clubs in the chase to land Birmingham wing wizard Seb Larsson.

Larsson has long been linked with Rovers over the last few windows but nothing concrete has come of it… until now seemingly.

Newcastle and Sunderland were believed to be hot on the heels but news that surfaced last night indicates that Blackburn are his preferred destination.

But the key bit is whether he will come now as both club and player seem to be happy to wait until his contract ends in the summer.

Alan Nixon has reported in the Daily Mirror – ‘Blackburn boss Steve Kean has won the race for Birmingham winger Sebastian Larsson – but is willing to wait until summer to clinch the deal.

Kean wants the Swede, and his chances were boosted when Larsson turned down offers from both Newcastle and Sunderland.

Larsson has told pals he fancies the move to Rovers, but is prepared to hold on until his contract expires to put pen to paper.

Rovers are also happy to sit it out, leaving Birmingham manager Alex McLeish with a major problem as he has already brought in David Bentley from Tottenham on loan to fill the position.’
