Breaking news it seems as Chris Ronnie, The JJB Sports Chief is apparently close to completing a buyout of The Walker Trustees and wants it completed BEFORE a new manager is appointed.

Reported on Tribal football’s website (But, in fairness, it seems to have been lifted from the UK tabloid ‘The People’) has indicated that JJB boss Ronnie has had four meetings with Rothschilds, the financiers empowered by the Jack Walker Trustees to find an interested party to sell the club and there has been ‘significant progress’.

Ronnie, apparently hopes to have an ‘exclusivity period’ agreement that would let him go through the books and make a formal offer.

The main issue is, we all are aware of this, how much the late Jack Walker’s family want.

‘They stopped pumping in cash recently but still have virtually complete control.’ This virtually confirms what we had all thought regarding the financial issues surrounding Hughes’ departure.

The Trustees are seeking approximately £35million for Blackburn Rovers. Ronnie and his consortium want to purchase the club and hand over a war chest for new acquisitions this summer.

If this takeover is completed as soon as Ronnie would like, then it could also head off possible sales of key players such as David Bentley or Roque Santa Cruz.

For me, this news has come out of the blue. As the article has suggested, if there has been a series of meetings and Ronnie is serious about this, it makes me question Hughes’ motives YET AGAIN as to why he has jumped ship as surely, given his gripe with the Trustees and lack of finances, his ‘good friend’ John Williams would have surely kept him in the loop on this.

Either way, if this takeover gathers pace, Rovers could be sitting very pretty by the time the European Championships are over.

  • hmmm i would like to think there is going to be a takeover but i really cant see it!! would be great tho!!!

  • We really need this if we are to retain our Premier League status. Not that I think we are currentyl at risk, but in a few years – who knows?

  • Good shout Wellsy, I am sure we wont go down this year but in a few years we will need the money to compete at the right end of the table.

  • Let’s hope this isn’t juts hot air! Fingers crossed. I’m also encouraged by some of the new candidates emerging in the media for the vacancy at Ewood. MAancini anyone!?

  • If this report is accurate… then that means no one can leave the club or be bought for the club until everything has been sorted out. I understand that it takes a while (3 months I think) to get everything organised, look through the financial books etc before a takeover can take place – this could be good and bad for the start of our season as we’ll kepp players who clubs maybe interested in but won’t be able to buy any… Somebody correct me if I’m wrong!

  • Maybe this is just talk as usual, but u say Wellsy three months then the last this was mentioned was in april so that is two months basically, so maybe could come true.

  • Hopefully we will see a takeover but WHY did Sparky leave then if this was in the pipeline?!?! If it does and he knew, that blows his reasons for leaving out of the water.

  • It certainly does boss. That 3 monthr ule is surely not right is it? Thaksin was buying players less than a month after taking over.

  • I would like to see this happen after all the talk over the last few months, with a new man coming in, with new players to buy and old ones to keep as well it would be lovely to be a position to say to him -“Here’s a few quid, go on and buy”!! lol Build on wot is already there, or use the money from whoever leaves to rebuild into a better team ready to move upwards in the Premier League!!!!!
