It has been understood that Blackburn Rovers were preparing to offer a mystery International (who will play at the European Championships in the summer) a short-term contract.

This mystery player in thought to be Switzerland International Johann Vogel, with it understood Rovers are preparing to offer the midfielder a contract until the summer. The 30-year-old is currently a free agent after his release by Real Betis, but is desperate to find himself a club to make sure he doesn’t miss out on the chance to represent his country (who as co-hosting the European Championships along with Austria) in the summer.

When he played for AC Milan he was often linked with Manchester United, so he obviously has talent, ability and quality. Since Robbie Savage left Rovers have been looking for a defensive midfielder and Vogel does fit the bill, however, the only worry I have is why is an International player of his pedigree without a club?!?!

  • Being without a club is my major worry, why is this?!?! However, a player of his quality would be a short-term option (at least) that I would be happy with if his condition and demands fit the bill?

  • once again, sparky stuns us all, sure he is 30, but tugay is what!!!!. He has a few years in him, ah God bless Sparky, he knows what he is doing

  • I like the sound of this. He has quality and the short term option gives us a chance to asses him till the summer. I wonder… does this mean we wont be signing Fortunre or signing both of them??? Either way fresh faces in the sqaud livens things up. I hope this happens. Mikey backs it.

  • I think the main reason with Vogel not having a club is that trying to get released from spanish clubs can take a bit of effort – just ask Albelda at Valencia! He didnt worl at Milan as they have a settled mdifield and like every Italian club just buy players they dont need based in reputation, then Betis changed manager and didnt play him, although I think he was playing b4 this change. He is a quality player who on if got on a short term basis ( to start with ) would be a good squad player if not 1st teamer. The good thing is he’ll be out to impress for Euro 2008

  • Yeah that’ll drive him on clint as will the push to get a longer term deal either here or elsewhere. Good spt by Hughes and a timely boost if we can get it.

  • Yeah with the lure of Europe with Rovers as well he may as well put his all into playing well, everyone knows he can but its entirelly up to him now. he has everything in his game that we are looking for add to this experience and he should be a very good signing for a team like Rovers. People shouldn’t be worried about Everton not taking him as they have a lot of midfielders, saying Graveson cant get a game, unless he left in Jan?!?! As for Sunderland, he may have turned them down, who knows lol

  • he would love to play for qpr but if he can’t get to us well maybe he could play for you (yeah i’d have him LR)

  • Apparently word is now that we are looking at Fortune and Vogel more for next season as opposed to this current one. However Vogel has only his fitness to prove… so if he can do that then Hughes will get him on board asap.

  • Vogel is a QUALITY footballer isn’t he, you don’t lose that overnight do you. I think taking a look at him for a week or two will be sufficent for Sparky to want some of that!!!

  • Vogel should sign soon, u would reckon that Rovers and Hughes couldnt let a opportunity like this pass them by! He’s free and quality, with only fitness to inprove on and we all know about how good Rovers backroom staff are under Hughes, its shoudnt take too long to get him up to standard!

  • Good deal for Rovers this is, hopefully he can either fill the void Robbie left or be our next Tugay. Its another brilliant coup though from Hughesy if the deal is done and hopefully there are more players like this to follow in the future.

Btw he has been training with Swiss club Lausanne since his departure from Betis so his fitness won’t be as bad as it could have been
