Blackburn Rovers are understood to be tying up the loose ends of a deal to bring young goalkeeper Nikos Giannakopoulos to Ewood Park.

The 16-year-old had a trial with Rovers last week and after impressing (apparently) during this it is understood that the Asteras Tripolis teenager has been offered a deal with Giannakopoulos expecting this completed very soon.

Giannakopoulos told Greek Radio Sport-FM: “As far as I know, some details remain for my transfer to Blackburn, I would say only the signatures. In the middle of July I will leave for the summer preparations.

“I am very happy to have this chance. I will leave Greece very young and if I am going to work hard I will reap the benefits from this.

“Everybody would love to play in England. The facilities, the organisation and everything works perfectly there.

The Greek youngster also said that we spotted him playing for his country at a youth level and after the trial we told him we wanted to sign him with him set to play a major role in the reserve side next season, if he then progresses well then his longer-term future will also lie at Ewood.

He added: “I was told that I will play football at the second team of Blackburn and if I am going to satisfy them then I will stay.

“My future there depends on my performances with the second team.

We’ve become “serial goalkeeper signers”, as we’re always linked with them and/or offering goalkeepers trials and usually signing them!!!
