It seems that far from being ’embarrassed’ by the actions of El Hadji Diouf as Neil Warnock implied, Blackburn Rovers are set to back their man after the Diouf/Mackie incident which caused such a stir at the weekend in the FA Cup third round.

Diouf was slaughtered for aiming a verbal tirade at Mackie after he had broke his leg and was on the floor after thundering into Gael Givet at a rate of knots that a jet ski would be proud of.

But the club are still keen to back Diouf and may even offer him the chance to respond (please let that happen, it would be priceless).

The Guardian are reporting – ‘Blackburn Rovers are set to stand by El Hadji Diouf after the striker was widely castigated for his alleged behaviour during the FA Cup meeting with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Diouf stands accused of abusing and taunting Jamie Mackie while the QPR forward was lying on the turf with a broken leg. Blackburn officials will hold further talks with their controversial player tomorrow and are of a mind to issue a statement in his defence.

A senior Blackburn figure said the club have a ‘duty of care’ to Diouf, who could himself offer a direct response to Mackie’s claims.’
