Rovers to wear red in HOME match!

It has been revealed that Blackburn Rovers will play the UEFA Cup group E match with FC Basel in our away strip of red…this wouldn’t be unusual but for the fact the game is at Ewood Park!

In a very unusual turn of events we will now wear our red kit in a HOME game due to the fact that FC Basel’s home and away kits clash with Rovers’ famous blue and white. Basel’s home kit is red and blue with their away strip being all white.

It has been agreed by both parties, having spoken with UEFA that both should wear their second strips. Blackburn Rovers’ club secretary Andrew Pincher said:

It will be very unusual to see a Rovers team playing in a kit other than blue and white at Ewood Park, but it is something we have no control over and it is the only sensible solution to the issue.”

It certainly will be unusual to see Rovers playing at home in red! How often do you hear of home sides playing in away ki…not often, but the plot takes another twist as this unusual situation could repeat itself when we take on Feyenoord in Holland in the UEFA Cup game after Basel!

The Dutch side play in red and white halved shirts, black shorts and black socks so it will be impossible for Rovers to wear the red kit. Feyenoord’s home colours may be too similar for us to wear our blue and white so it is likely our hosts will have to wear their blue and white changed strip for us to wear our red!

Pincher added:

UEFA have not taken a ruling at the moment and it looks as though the decision as to whether there is a clash with our blue and white will be left to the match referee.

If there was to be a change then Feyenoord would play in blue and white and we would revert to red.”

So far I think it is fair to say that the red kit hasn’t proved to be our most successful!

Although we are unbeaten when wearing it in Europe thus far we are yet to taste victory at all when wearing it! I don’t want to put a negative note on things but we’ve lost both Premiership matches and drawn the UEFA Cup game in which we have worn it this seas…
