Rovers have had to postpone their scheduled trip to India this week due to safety concerns.

The lads had been expected to travel on Thursday to Pune to meet the Rovers owners and play a friendly against local side Pune FC.

But the tour has now been cancelled after the Mumbai bomb attacks last week which killed 20 people.

Several senior players voiced concerns about the potential risk and after all has been considered the trip has been postponed.

A joint statement from the club and the owners on the official Rovers website reads – ‘Safety is always our top priority and after detailed discussions with our security and legal advisors we have been left with no option other than to postpone.

While everyone is obviously disappointed, we all accept the circumstances and the reasoning. We are now looking forward to the trip to India in a few weeks time.’

The right call here where I sit. There is no merit in risking the lives of anyone.

  • Possibly off due to all the reported turmoil at our club behind the scenes not the turmoil in India. Also it may look daft to parade our players in India ,if speculation is correct and Venkys are looking to be selling up and Rovers have no association with India in a few weeks time.Just a thought

  • Steve Kean’s been speaking to Sky about it and it’s now planned for October. So Kean is still in charge it seems.

  • I’ve heard a few of the players were concerned about security as well. I think this is fair enough. I don’t think this cancellation has anything to do with the Kean rumours.

  • Is Kean expecting us to be out of the league cup by October then? That’s the only way we could realistically fit a mid season tour in isn’t it?
