Blackburn Rovers took the opportunity to look at yet another trialist on Saturday afternoon (they opened the scoring) in our 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic. All of this came after a pitch invasion almost caused a delay, an invasion of bees!!

This match would’ve once been a Premier League encounter, we’ve been up and down a couple of times since Oldham dropped from that level with them now a SkyBet League One side as they hosted us at The SportsDirect.com Park (I see Mike Ashley has his claws in at Oldham too!!), also known as Boundary Park.

Rovers were lacking a recognised striker so this saw Gary Bowyer start John O’Sullivan in an unfamiliar role with new signing Bengali-Fode Koita not featuring and Chris Brown still injured. Jordon Rhodes, hardly surprisingly in view of his desire to move on and in the wake of fresh speculation a new bid for Rudy Gestede had came in both sat out with the official line this was due to injuries.

Nothing separated the sides in the first half but then former Aston Villa and England Under-21 International striker Nathan Delfouneso came on as a second half trialist with him opening the scoring for Rovers as he headed home a Craig Conway free-kick.

Conway (based on his Pre-Season scoring, I know they’re only friendlies) could well reach his double figures target?? He scored another superb goal to add the second.

With at least one more striker needed by the looks of it as both Rhodes and Gestede look like they’ll both be leaving Ewood Park now (one was always expected but it wouldn’t have been (really) though both would) Delfouneso wouldn’t have done his chance of getting a new club after a troubled spell with Blackpool (and we think we’ve got problems!!) any harm.
